This morning we dropped anchor at Mare, our second stop and were taken the short distance to the island by 'tender'.
On Duck Island we had met a guy called David who was a regular visitor to New Caledonia and wee arranged to hang out with him on Mare as he knew a guy that rented scooters.
Unfortunately it took some time to find out that he was not going to appear as there was a wedding in the village, so the excursion was called off.
After spending some time hanging around the port and market at Mare, we went for a short walk along the coast and went snorkelling with David and his sister. It was actually quite good, clear water and nice coral and sea life – we even saw a small blue and white banded sea snake.
However the weather closed in and it began to rain so we caught a tender back to the ship to dry off and warm up.
The highlight for me at dinner was an Asparagus Vichyssoise, a chilled asparagus and potato soup poured at the table.
That night there was a "Love and Marriage" show at the theatre, presumably featuring the same cast, so we decided to give it a miss, and retired to watch another episode of "Better Call Saul" on the laptop.
